ActiveSG Park at Jurong Lake Gardens West
The Playfield
Situated at the fringe of the Jurong Lake Gardens, ActiveSG Park is designed to connect the Gardens with the adjacent residential estates as part of a wider strategy to promote both sports and affinity to Nature towards a new vision of a healthy lifestyle.
This design proposed an innovative mix of fitness and swimming programs that are enhanced through a Natural backdrop in a way that would encourage nearby residents to adopt more sporting activities and to present these physical activities as an attractive recreational choice.
A dense, lush landscape is introduced to orient the pool and establish a connecting vista towards the Jurong Lake Gardens. A ramp directs provides arriving visitors a direct access to the roof gardens that similarly capture vistas towards the Lake Gardens in order to bring them closer towards Nature in the context of an urbanised environment.
The facility boundary is marked by a landscape feature called the ha-ha wall, providing a natural solution for a fenceless and seamless look.
A holistic environmental strategy was executed through both passive design and utilising latest technology. In addition to the green roof that reduces cooling load of the building, voids at the roof allow natural light to enter enabling plants to grow in the building interior. Deep overhangs of the roof and large windows allows natural light to travel further indoors. Solar PV panels are installed to offset electricity consumption.
