China, Lit!
ENTER THE DREAM GARDEN
China, Lit! is a contemporary, interpretive art exhibition that reimagines China as a key destination for today’s travellers. A first for Changi Airport, we have daringly reimagined the spirit of travel exhibitions in the airport.
The exhibition seeks to invite thought and contemplation within the airport’s thousands of visitors through its impressive, larger-than-life circles that glow gently in the space. In Chinese culture, the circle has traditionally represented values such as togetherness, unity, and completion - values that many Chinese continue to hold dearly to this day as the China around them continues to stun the world in growth and modernity. What does the new China mean to you?
Our proposal begins and ends with the abstraction of the circle - a pure geometry with a deep significance in Chinese culture. Without imbuing the form of the circle with any further Chinese symbolism, we leave the interpretation of this form entirely to the viewer. The circles of varying sizes are then layered, elevated, and configured in the space in a carefully arranged layout, around a central “portal”.
Designed entirely without walls, the exhibition is open and freely accessible - a bold yet welcoming gesture that encourages the viewer to move around the space, observing the installation in its entirety as it shifts with perspective. A sensation of lightness and non-being is created, piquing the curiosity of passers-by as it presents a fresh, contemporary portrayal of the “new China”.
